OHLHC Tumbling Recommendations
With a renewed emphasis on making sure our athletes are equipped with skills needed to make Oak Hills Middle and High School cheer squads, we are recommending that EVERY cheerleader be enrolled in tumbling classes year round if schedules allow. Off Season tumbling is a must to continue to acquire skills necessary to produce the top notch routines that we are now known to have.
As a general rule, 75% of a squad should be doing the same tumbling skills in a routine. Our goal is to get every athlete to a skill level that they feel a sense of pride and accomplishment, building their confidence and esteem along the way. We realize that every athlete is at a different level and will require different types of instruction; we want our squads to start meeting the following recommended skills:
Recommended End of Grade Level Tumbling
Recommended End of Grade Level Jump & Technique
Front roll, consistent Cartwheel & Roundoff
Sharp clean motions, facials single toe touch, hurkey/hurdler & pike.
Front Walkover, Bridge Kickover
Sharp clean motions, facials double toe touch, single hurkey/hurdler & pike.
Front Walkover, Backwalkover, connecting the above skills in a sequence
Sharp clean motions, facials, double connecting jumps (all types).
Standing Back Handspring, Running Back Handspring.
